Telescopes v/s Microscopes

by | May 27, 2014 | Motivation

Telescopes are more popular than microscopes. We’re fascinated with them. Telescopes have a grandiose reputation. They display the wonders of the universe and give us front row seats to things we can’t touch with our hands or see with our eyes. They bring the far close; and allow us a glimpse of our future.

The truth is that we think more “farsighted” than “nearsighted.” In other words, it’s harder to see close than to see far. It’s easier to dream, think BIG and see ahead than to recognize the small things God is doing in our lives. We’re more inclined to learn about our future and the vision of our lives, than to learn about the inner workings of God’s hand in our inner man.

I love what Charles Spurgeon said,

“The wonders of the microscope are quite as remarkable as those of the telescope; we may not set a bound to the Lord in one direction any more than in the other.”

In other words, as much attention as we pay toward the direction of our lives and our future, we should do the same regarding the development of our spirit – our relationship with God.

As amazing and wondrous are the galaxies and stars in the universe through a telescope; so is the workings of God’s hand in the inner-life of a person!   Don’t ignore the beauty and splendor of the little and seemingly “microscopic” wonders of God’s work in your life.
