I wouldn’t consider myself an expert in demonology, but I can tell you that I’ve put in enough study hours and hands–on working hours on the subject. I really don’t like talking much about an adversary that’s already been defeated, but I do feel that I need to expose one of its many lies that affects and infects Christians throughout this planet.
Let’s understand some basic concepts about satan:
- He’s a created being designed to provide an ulterior voice to the voice of God for the purpose of human choice (Genesis 3).
- He is the father of all lies (John 8:44).
- He’s a defeated foe. No longer containing the authority that was given to him when man sinned in the garden. Jesus took it from him. (1 John 3:8).
- He is not God’s greatest adversary…never was. He’s our adversary (1 Peter 5:8).
- He roams around like a lion seeking whom to devour. In other words, he looks for people who don’t understand their identity in Christ. (1 Peter 5:8).
- He operates in darkness. Darkness is the domain of ignorance. When we fail to understand God’s Word, we fall prey to satan’s deception (Colosians 1:13).
In my 25 years of ministry, I’ve concluded that the #1 tactic satan and his domain of darkness focuses on is convincing Christians that their prayer life is of no effect. I’m convinced that the only thing he fights against is a life of prayer. I’ve also concluded that the cause of any issue whether mental, relational, financial or even physical roots from a life absent of prayer.
I’ve learned this…
- A prayerless life creates a mental environment that’s susceptible to deception.
- A prayerless life breeds spiritual ignorance.
- A prayerless life mutes the voice of God in our lives.
- A prayerless life causes our hearts to operate in darkness.
- A prayerless life disengages us from God’s plan and purpose for our lives.
- A prayerless life disqualifies us from knowing the Spirit of wisdom and revelation.
- A prayerless life is the prime contributor to NOT knowing God.
P.T. Foryth said it best… “The greatest sin is prayerlessness.”
