Our relationship with God is Biblically described in many metaphors and similes. These metaphors are used to clearly paint a mental picture of the significance and complexity of our salvation and process of fulfilling our divine purpose. These metaphors and similes are used to help translate God’s eternal will, divine intentions and celestial objectives, written in heaven’s language, to our everyday, ordinary, limited and temporal understanding.
“Possessing the promise land” is a Biblical metaphor used to describe the act of valiantly obeying God and moving forward in obedience to obtain the very promise He’s given to us. Initially it was the example of the first generation Israelites’ plight in the dessert. It later became the destiny of the following generation. (Deuteronomy 1, Numbers 13)
Truth be told, this metaphor is applicable to the life of every believer. We all have personal and corporate times and seasons when we have to obey God and make a decision to “move forward,” in obedience, and engage our “God moment.”
I believe that “possessing the promise land” is engaging a God moment when the ONLY focus is making the necessary changes and adjustments in our lives to intentionally move forward in our journey with Him. These changes are first mental before they’re physical. These mental changes allow our spirit to engage in what Holy Spirit has destined for us. The “promise land” is really the spiritual location where our lives produce the purposed fruit needed to fulfill the purpose and will of God on earth as it is in heaven.
These God moments to intentionally “posses the promise land,” in my experience, are highlighted to us in seasons personally and corporately. I believe that Impact Church is at the very moment. We are at a “Kadesh Barnea” location and time when corporately and personally the people must respond and radically move forward to enter into what God has for us. And the first step in doing this is simply recognizing that very moment. There’s so much more here… More on this later….
