Let us not become weary in doing well, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)
Weariness is the primary enemy of the believer that has captured purpose and has an understanding of destiny. Before the demonic kingdom can ever manipulate, distort and influence, weariness must take place. Weariness has many siblings: exhaustion, fatigue, apathy and discouragement. The antithesis to weariness is restfulness and peacefulness. We must learn to forecast the symptoms of weariness for fear that they disqualify us from our purpose.
The greatest enemy to passion is weariness. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest..” The word weary in its Greek context is kopiaō, meaning, to grow weary, tired, exhausted (with toil or burdens or grief) to labor with wearisome effort, to toil. It is obvious that Jesus gives us the answer to weariness – His rest. His rest is not a rest of idleness and inactivity rather a rest during activity, commonly mentioned as a “second wind.” A second wind is simply an acclimation to the resistance of our environment. And it’s the ability to overcome and have rest in the midst of the work.
Jesus said, come unto Him…it is when we are with Him that we remain restful in labor and in pursuit of fruitfulness. This keeps our passion active and with intentionality. There is no magic formula to this, bottom line – when we grow weary and exhausted it’s when we operate in our own very limited and finite strength. But when we remain in Him and function in His strength; a harvest of fruitfulness and success will awaits us.
What about you? Are you weary? Arriving at a new level of faith is acclimatizing to the resistance that comes against you. Are you at rest in the midst of your fight? Are you on your second wind?
