Last night I taught on the connection between honor and wisdom. We post up all the messages preached in our church on iTunes podcast. Please subscribe to the podcast, and get the word in you. Here are some thought and highlights on last night’s message:
- Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding (Proverbs 4:7).
- Wisdom is simply the knowledge and experience needed to make sensible decisions and judgments.
- How do we get wisdom? Proverbs 4:7 says, …though it COST all…” How do we pay for it? What do we exchange for it?
- They key is HONOR.
- To honor is to value, to place worth and to make valuable. And when we acknowledge value, we’ll pay any price to get it. It’ll cost us all in order receive it, that is true honor.
- In the economy of Honor, we exchange our honor for God’s glory. His glory carries all his resources; and the greatest one is His wisdom!
How does this happen?
- When we honor God… when deem Him valuable…when we pay whatever price for favor, He gives us His wisdom. And that wisdom comes from our memories.
- Wisdom is the art of REMEMBERING but it’s also having the ability to forget.
- When we function in a state of DISHONOR, we’re inclined to remember what we should forget and forget what we should remember.
- Wisdom is found in everything. Our minds record everything. The problem is not the recording by the retrieving.
- Honoring God, positions us in a place where our minds are renewed to access all the wisdom we have learned. The price of wisdom is HONOR. Honor costs. But its return is insurmountable.
- For what it’s worth, C.S Lewis said, “We need to be reminded more than instructed.“
- Honor positions us to be reminded.
