Prayer is a Process

The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. (James 5:16b – Amplified Bible)

Responsibility has a process.  We understand responsibility to be the thing we have to do…for if we don’t do it then there are consequences.  Responsibilities are tasks, duties, mandates, commissions, orders, etc.  We know it in our “knower” that they must be executed and completed.  But there is a huge divide between knowing our responsibility and actually doing it!

Prayer is one of those responsibilities given to us by God himself.  But knowing to pray and actually praying are two very distinctive thoughts.  Why do we not do what we know we ought to do?  Why are people “responsible” in some areas of their lives and irresponsible in others?

It might be that the responsibility of prayer is a process.  And we all hate processes!

Prayer was never designed to be instantaneous in its response.  Prayer is not an action, an exercise; a formula…prayer is a culture.  Prayer must be a developed facet of our Christian lives.  It must be heartfelt… It must be earnest… It must be continued…it must come from righteousness!

When this process is understood and we do away with our timers and expiration dates, then prayer becomes powerful.

I have a prayer for my prayer life“Lord let me embrace the process and discipline of Prayer. Teach me to accept the responsibility of a disciplined life of prayer – for I desire my prayers to be powerful and to avail much!

Keep Praying Church!
